Goose Creek Wax Melt Review: Holiday Rum Cake

My Review for:   Goose Creek- Holiday Rum Cake

Goose Creek Description: "Absolutely delicious! Delight in this festive, gourmet blend. It's Holiday Rum Cake Heaven!"

Fragrance Notes:
                                  Top:    Rich Cream, Warm Butter
Mid:   Warm Vanilla Cake, Cocoa Drizzle
Base:  Sweet Vanilla Bean, Light Rum Notes

Wow

Does that smell Good. I can't decide what smells better on cold sniff, the Butter Cookie Candle or Holiday Rum Cake wax melt. They both appeal to my love of bakery/cookie/cake scents, and they are done VERY WELL. Read: Better than YANKEE in this department. I had read that Goose Creek's bakery candles were superior, and it only took one little sniff to confirm this. The first note I detect is a kind of buttery, lightly spiced, moist, sticky & delicious cake. This cake is not frosted, but straight out of the oven and onto your plate. I could eat this wax with a spoon right now. It smells entirely true to life. How could this POSSIBLY get better?

Lets Melt This Baby!

After about 5 mins in my Scenterpiece, my living room is already starting to smell like cake. It's pretty amazing, as it intensifies everything I loved about this scent on cold sniff. A little later, I can smell it going up the stairs and throughout my hallway. The butter notes are stronger upon melting, deepening the moistness of the cake notes. It's a very warm & inviting scent. It doesn't read "sweet" despite the vanilla and cocoa notes. I can't even pick out them out, as they they seem to blend & bolster all the other notes. It's more bakery than sweet, which is why I think I like it so much.

This is by far the best scent I currently own. I am kicking myself HARD for not snapping up the large sized jar while it was still in stock. I won't make that mistake the next time it's available.. Unfortunately that probably won't happen until the holidays roll around again.. As soon as I see it back in stock, into my cart it goes. It's THAT GOOD people.

I'm a cookie girl, but this scent makes me want to try Rum Cake. If it tastes as delicious as this wax melt smells, I've been missing out. I can't imagine anyone not loving this scent. It smells like I've been baking a cake too complicated & delicious for me to actually attempt. My cake wouldn't compare. I recommend Holiday Rum Cake to anyone & Everyone. It might be the best thing you've ever smelled. I feel like I could smell this everyday, for the rest of my life, and probably never get sick of it.

Goose Creek: Bedtime Stories

Goose Creek Bedtime Stories

My Review for:   Goose Creek- Bedtime Stories

Goose Creek Description: "Roasting marshmallows by the fire,
the imaginations run wild as our favorite bedtime stories are being told. "

Fragrance Notes:
Top:  Campfire Marshmallow, Warm Vanilla Bean
Mid:  Whipped Cream, Light Smoky Notes
Base: Vanilla Extract, Sandalwood, Soft Balsam

2nd Most Fragrant Candle....

Out of the 3 candles I ordered from my FIRST ORDER of Goose Creek Candles, Bedtime Stories was the middle child of fragrance strength. It wasn't as strong as my Butter Cookie Candle, but definitely stronger than my Pumpkin Caramel Swirl. On cold sniff, I immediately picked up on SWEET. The sweet notes in this candle are very obvious, though the particulars on these notes are a little tricky to pinpoint. After the initial sweet fragrance hits you, you than smell either a light powdery or floral note in the background. The powdery smell is most likely the sandalwood in the base notes.

There is extra layering added to this once lit. The vanilla comes out to join the marshmallow. The marshmallow goes, from the bag on cold sniff, to the warmth of campfire toasted soon after the wax pools. Then you get a waft of herbal note some people might not like because of the toasted marshmallow scent. The herbal note I detect is probably the balsam, which doesn't come off as a fresh green note, like Christmas scents often do. This balsam has a little bit of bitterness to it, creating the char on top of the gooey marshmallow. The smokey sandalwood and the addition of the Balsam tones down the sweetness of vanilla and marshmallow, though one time I thought it smelled a little like plastic was thrown into my campfire. This only happened once, but I thought I should mention it.

Bedtime Stories is an intriguing fragrance. It's not for people that dislike really sweet fragrances. It might give them a headache, though I doubt anyone that sensitive to sweet candles would want to try a marshmallow/whipped cream/vanilla candle. I enjoy burning this candle. It's sweet, but soft and less food-y than you would think. I really do feel like the label matches the scent. Cozy. Warm. Safe. Inviting. The throw is about a 6/10, filling my living room and part of my hallway. I think this is a great pick up for anyone that likes non food-y sweet scents, or anyone that just wants to try something a little different.

Note: I wanted to see what would happen if I melted a little Goose Creek Holiday Rum Cake, while burning this candle. I thought it would be interesting to try to bring out a more food-y side of the marshmallow. Mixing the two created a fragrance that was TO DIE FOR. I mean it. All out DELICIOUS. I can't imagine anyone not loving this combination. I recommend trying other food fragrances with this to see what delicious combos can be made. Bedtime Stories is extremely versatile and I will update when I try something else with it!

YANKEE CANDLE WEBSITE REVIEWS

  • AMAZING

"This has such a soft, not-too-sweet smell, just a relaxing, refreshing scent - my favorite by far! The name, Angel's Wings, is the perfect description."

  • Soft and Sweet

I can see why this fragrance has broad appeal. It has one of those generic, blended scents that’s a combination of some beautiful notes that combine to produce the perfumed, ‘can’t quite put my finger on it’ types of fragrance. This is a softer blend than others such as Wedding Day, Lake Sunset and Pink Sands but for me, I put it in that same category to give me some reference.

  • Nice and cozy!

"I really like this fragrance, if you are a fan of soft blanket I think you will love this scent. The first thing I thought when this melt started to bloom was wow this smells a lot like soft blanket, but at the same time it takes on a life of it's own with what I believe is the lightest touch of white flowers . I really enjoyed this fragrance and it has lasted more then 8 hours for me. "

  • Not What I Expected
"I ordered this just to try as I usually do with the new scents. This one is not a winner with me , first I would question why they named it "Angel's Wings" as I smell nothing Heavenly about it. It has a hint of what I would call almost a vanilla cookie scent , but so faint that you can barely smell it when burning. The tart has no throw at all , I burned 2 at the same time and you wouldn't even know I had 1 burning. The tart has no throw at all , I burned 2 at the same time and you wouldn't even know I had 1 burning. Normally I get 2 burns from a tart. This new scent is very faint if detectable at all and the scent is basically a vanilla sugar cookie but with less scent. This is not a winner in my opinion."

  • Description Doesn't Match Scent-Don't Like At All!
"The description of this scent sounds like a scent I would really like. I usually love vanilla based scents & the soft flower scent mixed in would be right up my alley, so the only thing I can assume I don't care for is the sugar part of this particular tart-it actually smells like something is burning in the oven! I've tried a couple of them & even tried mixing it with other scents, but that "burnt" smell comes through. I assumed it was just me until my husband came home one day while I had one in an electric warmer thinking that might help-he immediately asked me if I had baked something during the day & burnt it, so I KNOW it's not just me! I even tried one of the votives I ordered in this scent & had the same experience. Perhaps I just got a bad batch because I usually love these type of scents, however, I don't think I've ever ordered one with the sugar scent in it-that's why I assume it's the sugar smell that is not going over well at all. I was hoping for a smooth vanilla type smell & instead got the scent of what seems to smell like I had a bad "baking" day in the kitchen! I do not like this at all & wouldn't recommend it. NOONE complimented positively about this scent the few times I tried it which is also something I take into consideration when deciding if I'd order it again or give it a good review. I don't know what I'll do with the 5 tarts I have left as nothing I've tried has made them smell any better-be aware that the description on this one is very deceiving compared to the actual scent itself."

  • Great Smell Strong Throw
"This has to be one of my favorites. The vanilla smell is so soft and pretty, yet has a great throw. Used half a tart in a medium warmer and it lights up a large sized living room nicely. Absolutely will be back for this one.. wish I had ordered more!"

Yankee Candle Rating: 4/5 Stars
